Interlude

10 easy miles this morning on dry pavement (mostly).  Wind out of the north made the first few miles a little chilly but I warmed up after awhile.  The sun is starting to brighten the morning sky which is improving the enjoyment factor of the workouts significantly.

Tomorrow back to the 440’s.

Passing Plows

10 x hill this morning. 5.8 miles total.  Road was snow covered but the volume did the trick.  Eric came out to help this morning.  Glad for his company.

We had the unique experience of passing a snowplow as we ran up one of the last repeats.  Rather disconcerting really.

Last short long

Mike and I ran our last short long I think for the season.  We bump our 17 milers up to 20 beginning next week.  Sort of got used to running just the loop.  Now to adding the 3 miles at the end will take some fortitude.

No run today as we had a wicked snowstorm and I had to spend my running time shoveling and driving to work.  (It took two hours to drive to work in case you’re wondering).

Hill work tomorrow.

Snow Speed

Poor footing for today’s 10 x 440.  But it got done.

Overdressed

Considering the winter, this is supposed to be a good problem.  But it had the effect of shortening my run this morning as I overheated early.  Slow became really slow but I felt good otherwise.

Training Effect

Ran for effect this morning on this pleasant day off. Slept in and got out after 10 o'clock but I felt pretty good. Ended up with a progression run over 10 miles:

Mile 1: 9:19
Next 4: 31:45 (7:57 pace)
Next 5: 32:14 (6:27 pace)

So relaxed today. Before the workout I even had time to go running with Meg which is something I love to do.

Long Run to Sanity

I purposely took time off to avoid burn out. Today I was so glad to be back out on the roads with good friends: Mike & Ozzie. Did an easy 17 miles @ 8:59 pace. Good conversation the whole trip which made the run seem much shorter.

With a day off from work on Monday I think I'll be rested up for another attack.

After the long run I went up to Mom's house for my sister's 41st birthday celebration which involved carbo-loading (see video below).

Bout of exhaustion

It may have been cold out but the temperatures are hot on the work front as the recession is driving the volume to the stress point. Can't seem to roll out of bed at the usual early hour anymore. Early hours / late hours / no lunches. I'm looking forward to a slow leisurely run on Sunday at Boyden.

Friends...

Get you through those final miles.  Met up with Eric at mile 9.5 this morning and he got me through to 15.  Warmer temps and dry pavement made running much easier than late.

Takes a lot of willpower to get past the house at the 10 mile mark but with some company it’s rather easy.

15 miles @ 8:39 pace

10 miles yesterday.

The Beasts of Boyden

Long run this morning with Mike had some excitement as we were charged by dogs. We survived the encounter and got 12 miles in as a test for Mike's calf which seems to be mending nicely. Now if only Marc's would do the same we'd be in fine shape.
